A foster home often juggles special diets, medications, bottle feeding and a lot of extra washing up, so the way you use your kitchen can make daily care easier and safer for both people and animals.
Dishwashers and pet bowls
Food and water bowls build up a slimy film of bacteria surprisingly fast, especially in the warm, humid Central Florida climate. Many stainless steel and ceramic bowls are dishwasher safe, and a hot cycle is a convenient way to clean them thoroughly. Check the manufacturer's guidance first, because some plastic bowls warp or scratch, and scratches can harbor germs. Some fosters run pet items in a separate load. If you are caring for animals with contagious illnesses such as parvovirus or ringworm, ask your rescue coordinator or veterinarian how to disinfect bowls, because some pathogens need specific cleaning products.
Microwaves and feeding routines
