Planning a Concert Night When You Have Pets at Home

Big country shows often mean a long evening away from home. There is the drive, parking, the opening act, the encore and the slow crawl out of the lot afterwards. For anyone in Central Florida who has recently adopted or is fostering an animal, a night like that takes a little planning so the pets at home stay calm and safe while you sing along.

Before you leave

  • Count the real hours. Add travel time both ways and a buffer for traffic. Arena and amphitheatre shows can easily stretch a night to six hours or more door to door.
  • Arrange a check-in. A trusted neighbour, friend or pet sitter can let a dog out, refresh water and give medication on schedule. This matters most for puppies, seniors and newly adopted animals who are still settling in.
  • Exercise first. A long walk or play session before you go helps a dog rest while you are out.
  • Keep Florida heat in mind. Leave the air conditioning set at a comfortable level, and never leave a pet in a parked car at a venue, even for a short time.

Helping a new pet cope with alone time

Rescue animals sometimes find long absences stressful, especially in their first weeks. Practise shorter departures in the days leading up to a big night. Leave a worn T-shirt in their bed, offer a long-lasting chew or food puzzle, and keep the radio or a familiar playlist on low. If you foster, check with your coordinator about any rules for leaving a foster pet alone. Our foster page covers the basics of settling a new arrival.

Getting tickets and details

Tour dates, cities and ticket sales are confirmed only through the band's official channels and authorised ticket sellers. Be wary of resale listings that appear before an official announcement. Once dates are public, book your pet care at the same time you buy tickets. Sitters fill up quickly on popular weekends.

If a concert road trip isn't on the cards this year, you can still enjoy music at home with an animal who needs a family. Browse the pets currently looking for homes on our adoption page, or read a few happy endings in our stories.
